COP3 PRACTICAL - QUESTIONS FOR SYEDA

I have collated a list of questions for the counsellors, patients and carers in preparation for my meeting with SYEDA (South Yorkshire Eating Disorder Association) tomorrow in Sheffield, allowing me to get the most out of the meeting as possible as well as ensuring I get everything needed out of it, so the information can be complied into a case study, or discussed during my dissertation.

Questions for SYEDA:

Have you noticed a rise in the number of patients within the past 10 years?

Have you noticed a rise in the number of male patients?

Do you think that the commercialisation of women has had an impact on eating disorders?

What do you find the most common cause/influence of eating disorders to be?

How do you think the public could be made more aware of eating disorders and it’s causes/influences/treatment?

How do you think the fashion industry has affected eating disorders?

Do you think patients are influenced by magazines, and if so what in particular?

Do you believe that magazines glamorise images of the female body in a negative way?

What in particular do you think can be harmful to women who are worried about their body image?

Why do you think people try to compare themselves to images they have seen in magazines of celebrities or models?

Do you think children are becoming more affected by eating disorders younger because of the availability of media images?

Patient Questions:

Do you feel pressured to look a particular way due to the media/fashion industry?

Would you say the media/fashion industry has had an influence/impact on your eating disorder? And if so, in what way

What do you feel has influenced your eating disorder?

Carer Questions:

Do you think the media/fashion industry has had an influence on your son/daughters development of an eating disorder? And if so, in what way?

Do you think that the commercialisation of women has had an impact on eating disorders?

How do you think the public could be made more aware of eating disorders and it’s causes/influences/treatment?

Do you believe that magazines glamorise images of the female body in a negative way?

What is your personal opinion on the correlation between the rise in number of eating disorders, and the subsequent rise of advertising, media and the fashion industry?
